ReWild Advocates: turning outdoor passion into responsible action

A final meeting and public conference in Marano Vicentino close one year of work by KRAP and its Serbian partners

On 29–30 August 2026, Marano Vicentino (Vicenza) hosted the closing chapter of ReWild Advocates, an Erasmus+ Sport project coordinated by ASD KRAP together with the Mountain Rescue Service of Serbia – Unit Niš (GSS) and SEA EduSphera. Partners from Italy and Serbia gathered for the final transnational meeting and the public conference, bringing twelve months of research, training and community work in front of the people who care about our mountains and trails.

Why ReWild

More people than ever hike, run, climb and camp, and that is good news for health and community life. But it also puts pressure on the places we love: trampled ground, widened paths, litter, disturbed wildlife. ReWild started from a simple idea: outdoor adventure should not damage nature, it should help protect it.

What we found

The project began by listening. A survey in Italy and Serbia collected more than 200 responses, and focus groups with experts and practitioners in both countries helped turn the data into practical choices. The picture was clear. People care about nature and are ready to change habits, but good intentions often stop short of everyday practice. Litter is the most visible problem, while softer impacts such as organic waste or trail shortcuts are less recognised. Problems concentrate where people arrive, stop and rest: parking areas, trailheads, picnic spots and shelters. And respondents told us what would help most: short do and don’t lists, simple icons, and information right on site.

What we built
Those answers shaped the project’s main outputs:
– A network of eco-ambassadors trained to carry the message into clubs, schools and outdoor groups. Along the way, we met KRAP educators and coaches, hiking guides and Scout leaders, whose feedback helped refine the materials.

– The ReWild Kit, a practical manual on responsible outdoor behaviour, covering everything from understanding impact to leading groups and organising low-impact events.

– QR-code stickers for trails, venues and gear, giving a quick eco-guide in the exact moment a decision is made.

The final event

In Marano Vicentino, partners reviewed the results achieved, shared lessons learned and discussed how to keep the work alive after the funding period. The public conference opened the conversation to local stakeholders, presenting the project’s findings and tools and encouraging new collaborations for responsible outdoor recreation.

What comes next

ReWild does not end here. The Kit and the digital resources remain freely available, the QR stickers stay active on the trails, and the eco-ambassadors will continue to spread good practice. As KRAP, we will keep working with our partners to make responsible behaviour the natural choice for everyone who spends time outdoors.

A heartfelt thank you to GSS Niš, SEA EduSphera, the eco-ambassadors and everyone who took part along the way.
